The Chicora Life Center signed a long-term lease last week with the Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center.
In the center of North Charleston, South Carolina, the Chicora Life Center will be a social services focal point for a variety of social, government, non-profit and health-care facilities. The $29-million-plus center is in the old Naval Hospital.
“The addition of this key tenant is yet another step toward our vision of creating a comprehensive social services hub for the community under a single roof in the heart of Charleston County,” Doug Durbano, Chicora Life Center's manager, said.
The lease is for a 9,807-square-foot space that houses exam rooms and office spaces that will be used by physicians and school therapists. In addition, a telepsychology center will be added to serve patients in the coastal region.
The tenant has hired Bennett Hofford Construction Co. to renovate the space. The project is expected to be finished by Dec. 1. Planned improvements include a new heating and air conditioning system.
Other confirmed tenants for the Chicora Life Center include the South Carolina Department of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Services (DAODAS); South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control; Charleston County Vital Records; Fetter Health Network, Inc.; and the Tricounty Interoffice Group (supportive of Alcoholics Anonymous).
