A segment of Carolina Business Review, during which South Carolina Chamber of Commerce CEO Ted Pitts will discuss the state's critical need for infrastructure improvement, is set to air at 9 p.m. on Nov. 12 on local PBS affiliates.
"You need to give credit to Speaker Lucas because the House passed a bill with a two-thirds vote that sat over in the Senate," Pitts said during the segment, which was taped Oct. 2. "We’re hopeful this year that it’s going to happen; that it’s first up in the Senate except for Special Order."
Pitts went on to say the state had no choice but to get the repairs done.
"You look at the disrepair of our roads and our bridges and you hear CEO’s like Jack Sanders with Sonoco and Pete Selleck with Michelin and Brian Newman with Honda, when you hear that conversation that it’s effecting the way South Carolina is perceived for expansions and other things, it’s something that we have to address this year,” he said. "A bill has passed out of Senate Finance. So we are hopeful that this year, even though it is an election year, is a year that the General Assembly is finally going to act.”
