Blackbaud promotes Westmoreland to chief technology officer

Charleston-based Blackbaud Inc., a software and services provider for the global philanthropic community, recently named Beth Westmoreland its new chief technology officer.

“I’m looking forward to working with all of our engineering teams across the company to accelerate our ambitious cloud architecture strategy and our new generation of nonprofit solutions," Westmoreland, who has been with Blackbaud since 2008, told Palmetto Business Daily. "We have an amazing product portfolio today and we’re leveraging the latest technology to deliver even more innovative, smart and open solutions that work seamlessly together and require minimal investment to implement. This will enable our clients to spend less effort managing their IT systems, and more time on their missions of doing more good in the world.”

Westmoreland will continue to report to Kevin McDearis, executive vice president of research, delivery and operations.

“Mary Beth is very adept at getting her arms around complex business and technology problems, and distilling them down to simple explanations that ignite teams to take action," McDearis said. "She has incredible and infectious energy for serving our clients and making work fun for our employees along the way. Under Mary Beth’s leadership, we’ve established global architecture strategy and introduced our NXT Solution Line enabled by our new Blackbaud SKY cloud architecture – this includes our SKY APIs and SKY UX frameworks that allow our clients and growing partner network to seamlessly adapt and integrate Blackbaud’s solutions into other technologies.”

Blackbaud is also expanding its goals.

“We’re working to power an 'Eco-System of Good' that brings together nonprofits, foundations, corporations, and individuals via a simple, scalable, and integrated set of capabilities," McDearis said. "For Blackbaud, that means accelerating the transformation of our products on to our next-generation open architecture without the need for our clients to endure complex migrations."

Westmoreland will first devote her attention to:

--The design and execution of an innovative, intelligent, mobile-responsive, consistent user experience (SKY UX).

--Delivery of Blackbaud SKY API’s (our open REST API’s) allowing for external developers and partners to extend and integrate with the solutions we deliver.

--Acceleration of next-generation nonprofit solutions by increasing its speed of innovation.
