Global automotive supplier Magna International has announced plans to expand its South Carolina manufacturing operations in Columbia, South Carolina.
Officials from the South Carolina Department of Commerce said Magna will construct a new exteriors facility in the Matrix Park in Southern Greenville County at the corner of U.S. Highway 25 and Interstate 85.
It is anticipated that the $50.8-million investment will create 153 jobs.
“Greenville County’s automotive economy continues to grow at a solid rate," Greenville County Chairman Dr. Bob Taylor said. "Magna International’s commitment to its facility at Matrix Park is proof-positive that future growth in this sector will continue for many years to come.”
Magna is based in Aurora, Ontario, Canada, and operates plants all over the world, employing about 124,000 workers. The new Greenville County facility will supply BMW with an array of exterior molded and painted assemblies.
“Our state has a long and storied tradition in the automotive industry, and we’re excited that Magna International continues to be an important part of that tradition," South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said.
The 165,000-square-foot Greenville County facility is expected to be up and running in June 2016. For more information or to apply for available jobs, log on to www.magna.com.
