Columbia-based South Carolina Research Authority (SCRA) Applied Technologies and its SC Launch program were honored with a Gold Excellence in Multi-Year Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council, SCRA said Wednesday.
The award is based on definitive, recorded economic development results over a three- to five-year period. Other criteria include economic impact on the community, achievement of stated objectives, development of relevant relationships with relevant players, community support, innovation, originality and cost effectiveness.
To be eligible for the award, programs had to have been active for at least three years.
This is SCRA's fifth such award in the last seven years.
SCRA and SC Launch assist high-tech, startup businesses to grow through investments and mentoring. Since 2006, SCRA has provided $100 million in funding and infrastructure to back 315 startup enterprises in the Palmetto State.
"We are delighted to accept this prestigious award recognizing our efforts in economic development,” SCRA CEO Bill Mahoney said.
