Industrial design and machining company DC Machine, LLC is expanding existing operations in Dorchester County, South Carolina, the South Carolina Department of Commerce announced Sept. 22.
The expansion is a $5.3 million investment that is expected to create 17 new jobs in Summerville.
“DC Machine LLC is excited to announce this expansion and our new 38,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, which will be unlike any other in the surrounding area," DC Machine Owner Brian Plaisance said. "With our expanded capabilities, we hope to maintain a workforce of more than 70 employees while producing high-quality components for our customers locally and across the United States. As a firm that’s proud to hire locally, this expansion will do more than just have a positive impact on the local economy, it will help enrich employment opportunities in the town of Summerville and the Tri-County area.”
The expansion includes a 17,000-square-foot addition at the plant at 202 Thorpe Road that is used for the manufacture of gun barrels. It is expected to be fully operational by the fourth quarter of this year.
Launched in 2004, DC Machine serves customers in the automotive, aerospace, medical and military fields.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $50,000 set-aside grant to Dorchester County to help fund real property improvements related to the project.
“It’s no secret that South Carolina’s manufacturing industry continues to have great success," South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said. "The expansion of DC Machine’s manufacturing operations in Dorchester County is yet another example of that success.”
