Alchemy Global recently announced the initial closing on a Series A Round for Apera LLC, a company that produces fitness and sports bags.
Across the globe, fitness and sport bags are a $19 billion industry. More than 1 billion fitness bags are sold each year in the United States.
Apera's bags are unique in that they protect themselves from odor and bacteria using antimicrobial product protection on the inside and outside. They feature vented compartments, wipeable linings and washable Fit Pocket inserts.
"This is an exciting time for us," Andy Youngs, founder and chief executive officer of Apera, said. "While we have seen tremendous success and market penetration over the past couple of years, we're genuinely excited about the next evolution of our fitness bags. We're introducing an entirely new line of bags this fall that are lighter in weight, are healthy by design, and continue to elevate your total fitness experience."
Apera officials said the proceeds from the sale will be used to pay for inventory, marketing and general operational requirements. Apera was officially launched in June 2012 by Youngs and Frank Steed, who together have more than three decades of experience in the retail, bags and luggage business.
