Automotive supplier Draxlmaier Group is in the process of expanding its manufacturing facility in Spartanburg County -- and in investing more than $35 million to do so.

Over the next five years, 94 new jobs will be created at the Duncan plant.

"Our plant in Duncan plays an important strategic role for our global production network and for our customers right here in the Americas," Barbara Bergmeier, board member and head of Draxlmaier Group Production and Logistics, said. "Our company has been in the upstate of South Carolina for almost 20 years, and we plan to strengthen our ties even further in the near future."

Draxlmaier's Duncan plant produces interiors and plastic components for premium automobiles. The facility opened in 1998, and to date has undergone three expansions, the most recent in 2011. Since the plant opened, 350 jobs have been created at the factory, which is Draxlmaier's only manufacturing site in the United States.

“Draexlmaier has been a model corporate citizen over their two-decade history in Spartanburg County and they are a great example how successful a premier company can be when they dedicate themselves to the community in which they work, live, and play," David Britt, chairman of the Economic Recruitment and Development Committee of Spartanburg County and a member of the Economic Futures Group Board, said.

About 1,000 people work at the plant. The new expansion is a 184,000-square-foot production and logistics building. New infrastructure and equipment also will be added.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $500,000 Set Aside grant to Spartanburg County to assist with the costs of real-property improvements related to the project.

“We want to achieve a sustainable growth," Ulrich Eichler, president of operations for Draxlmaier in the Americas, said.

The expansion's projected completion date will be sometime in the third quarter of 2016, and hiring for some new positions is already taking place. To apply or learn more about the Draxlmaier Group, visit www.draexlmaier.us.
