Honda of South Carolina Manufacturing, Inc. has announced plans to expand its Florence County operations by adding two new product lines – the Pioneer 1000 and the Pioneer 1000-5.
The new lines represent an investment of $42 million and will create more than 40 new jobs.
The Pioneer 1000 and Pioneer 1000-5 are all-terrain vehicles that will feature six-speed, fully automatic Dual Clutch Transmission. The Pioneer 1000 comes standard with four-wheel drive. Both will be available by fall.
"The ultimate heritage of any company is its people," Honda North America President Takuji Yamada said. "I am excited to be here in South Carolina today with associates representing Team Honda from across our many business divisions, including manufacturing, R&D and sales and marketing."
Honda South Carolina President Brian Newman also expressed the importance of the expansion.
“The side-by-side market is growing rapidly, and Honda is focused on adding new jobs and investment in South Carolina to meet the increasing customer demand," Newman said. "The new Honda Pioneer 1000 will be the flagship offering in the largest and fastest-growing segment of the industry, and the 1,000 associates at Honda of South Carolina in Timmonsville are ready and excited to meet the challenge.”
Gov. Nikki Haley called the expansion a "big win" for South Carolina.
"This $42 million investment is another example of Honda’s tremendous commitment to our state, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue to grow and thrive here for many years to come," Haley said.
