A crowdfunding campaign has been launched by pop-up book shop Itinerant Literate that will run through Oct. 7 with a goal of raising $65,000.
Itinerant Literate was founded by Christen Thompson and Julia Turner, Denver Publishing Institute graduates who now live in Charleston and are employed by local publisher The History Press.
“It happened weirdly naturally and slowly," Thompson said. "There were little things we’d see in Shelf Awareness (a leading e-newsletter for the book industry), or seeing cool concepts that different bookstores are doing. We’d say, ‘We wish there was a bookstore here doing that.’"
Thompson and Turner hope to create a full-service mobile bookstore before the end of the year, and they are asking for community support to reach their goal.
“The majority of the funding is needed for the books themselves, which is something we’re proud of: keeping most of the overhead for the books,” Turner said.
