Officials for Trident Health Systems of Charleston, South Carolina, recently announced that Kevin Shea, M.D., has been chosen to be the company's chief medical officer.

He received his medical degree from the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn and later completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York. He earned his fellowship in infectious disease there as well.

Shea, who is board-certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases, hails from Long Island, New York. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Disease Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, as well as a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the HIV Medicine Association, South Carolina Medical Association and the South Carolina Infectious Disease Society.

He is the father of four children and lives with his wife, Shauna, in the Coosaw Creek community of North Charleston.

Trident Health is a 407-bed HCA hospital system comprised of two acute care hospitals -- Trident Medical Center and Summerville Medical Center -- as well as two free standing emergency departments -- Centre Pointe Emergency and Moncks Corner Medical Center.
