M.B. Kahn Construction has been tapped by Santee Cooper to build the Lake Moultrie Phase II Reliability Improvements at Santee Cooper's Regional Water System Facility, which is located in Moncks Corner.
“This $31 million project reflects a continuing relationship between Santee Cooper and M. B. Kahn which has existed for many years," Bill Edmonds, executive vice president of M.B. Kahn's Water Works Group, said. "It’s exciting to be involved in a project which will provide drinking water to several different municipalities and have a positive economic impact on the areas they serve. We anticipate 100-130 jobs during our peak activity, which is expected to last two years."
The partnership between M.B. Kahn and Santee Cooper will culminate in the renovation and expansion in Santee Cooper's water system facility. The new plant will be able to produce as much as 42 million gallons of drinking water each day -- 30 percent more than is currently being produced. Also, an upgrade to the 22-year-old facility will make the system more reliable.
Santee Cooper's regional plant sells water to the Lake Moultrie Water Agency, which includes the Berkeley County Water and Sanitation Authority, the City of Goose Creek, the Moncks Corner Public Works Commission and the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works.
