The South Carolina Bar named attorney T. McRoy Shelley III, a shareholder in the Rogers Townsend & Thomas, Columbia location, the Law-Related Education (LRE) Lawyer of the Year.
The award is presented to a member of the South Carolina Bar each year. Recipients of the award must have fostered public understanding of the values of the legal and judicial system; stimulated a deeper sense of individual responsibility by helping students recognize their legal duties and rights; encouraged and supported an effective LRE program; and increased communication among students, educators and those working in the legal system.
The LRE Division also considers the length of time that a nominee has worked to foster education about the profession and awards; additional weight given to nominees with a history of supporting its mission.
Shelley is the head of the litigation department at Rogers Townsend & Thomas and is responsible for litigation that involves construction, products liability, commercial claims, trucking accidents, personal injury, property and casualty, environmental damage, insurance coverage and criminal law.
