SBA names top South Carolina small business entrepreneurs


The U.S. Small Business Association's (SBA) South Carolina district office this week announced winners of the state’s 2015 Small Business & Advocacy Awards.

The winners will be honored during an awards ceremony  in Columbia on May 6 as part of SBA’s National Business Week celebration.

Melissa Gladden, president of Carolina Recruitment in Rock Hill, was named the Small Business Person of the Year. Earning honors as South Carolina Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year was Ted Westmoreland, CEO of the Tactical Development Group in Greenville.

The award for South Carolina Minority Enterprise Advocate of the Year went to Nika White, vice president of diversity and inclusion at the Greenville Chamber of Commerce. Nita Hozey, the owner of Praise Unlimited Weddings in Abbeville, is South Carolina Women in Business Advocate of the Year.

Lowcountry Local First of Charleston was honored as South Carolina Small Business Ally of the Year, and the Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation Award went to the Rock Hill Area Small Business Development Center at Winthrop University.
