Orchids Paper Products Company, which produces private label, high-quality consumer tissue products, said Monday it is establishing a new operation in Barnwell County, South Carolina.
Experts estimate that the new branch will create 134 additional jobs for the Barnwell community.
Founded in 1998, Orchids Paper Products originates from Pryor, Oklahoma. The company already has operations running in northeast Oklahoma and Mexicali, Mexico. Orchids Paper Products manufactures bulk tissue paper made from virgin and recycled fibers. The production process changes these fibers into a full product line. The companys supplies private label goods for the value, premium and ultra-premium-tier paper markets.
“This project will be a major step forward in our vision to become a national supplier of high quality consumer tissue products,” Orchids Paper Products President and CEO Jeff Schoen said. “Following a thorough analysis of the important aspects of a greenfield site, such as our current customer base and growth opportunities, logistics, workforce skills and abilities, and local and state incentives, we chose Barnwell for our first greenfield site. From the governor to the Department of Commerce to Barnwell County’s economic development team to the city of Barnwell, we found South Carolina to be very responsive to our company’s business needs.”
The company has invested approximately $110 million in this branch, and officials have reported that they are willing to invest more in the future.
“Today, we celebrate Orchids Paper Products Co. and its investment in one of our rural counties,” Governor Nikki Haley said. “The company’s capital investment of more than $110 million means more than 130 jobs in Barnwell, it’s another victory for our entire state, and we couldn’t be more excited to watch them grow for a very long time.”
