Conway hospital to buy equipment with JEDA funds

The Conway Medical Center (CMC) will use $20 million from a South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority (JEDA) Series 2014 revenue note to buy new medical equipment and information technology, JEDA said this week.

The nonprofit medical center on Singleton Ridge Road in Conway has approximately 200 physicians on staff and offers a variety of services, from joint replacement surgery to inpatient dialysis.

“We’re very excited to be able to use these funds to continue to improve our facilities and continue to provide the highest-quality medical care to Horry County residents,” Bret Barr, chief financial officer at Conway Medical Center, said.

Conway Medical Center currently has approximately 1,450 employees and is one of Horry County’s largest employers.

“We know what a vital role this hospital has played in the lives of Horry County residents, and we feel privileged to be able to play a role in the continuation of this care,” Ray Jones, a bond counsel with Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, LLP, in Columbia, said.

In 2014. the medical center was only one of 18 hospitals, out of 336 participating nationwide, to receive the QUEST Award for High-Value Healthcare from Premier, Inc.
