The Mt. Pleasant, SC zoning administrator has determined that a mural on the side of the building of Moe's Southwest Grill, located at 900 Houston Northcutt Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant should come down — but Town Councilman Mark M. Smith said this is an example of "too much government."
In a Facebook post published earlier today, Smith posted that that "the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) is scheduled to consider an appeal filed by Moe’s on December 19, 2016 regarding the zoning administrator’s determination that its mural featuring John Lennon, Al Capone, and Marilyn Monroe is an unauthorized and unwanted sign."
"Moe’s, after significant forethought, created a piece of artwork on their building," wrote Smith. "This is not advertising. This small business owner, and valued participant to the town’s economy, should not have to expend time and money to fight unnecessary government interference."
Smith encourated his fellow Mt. Pleasant citizens to oppose the zoning administrator's actions.
