Charleston's Park Circle redevelopment was a topic of the recent Urban Land Institute panel. The group of real estate developers and business owners were briefed on key projects in the area at the beginning of the event.
The Beach Co., one of the sponsors of the panel, discussed its Factory at Garco Park project with the panelists. The planned community features an urban living alternative, including artist lofts, stores, restaurants and offices as well as apartments. The units range from studios to three-bedroom apartments.
“What was once 100-acre industrial plant in North Charleston will now be restored to a lively mixed-use community for residents and nearby neighbors to enjoy,” The Beach Co. Vice President of Development Kent Johnson said. “Not only is The Factory at Garco Park an economic driver for the area, it positively impacts the lives of those who live, work and play near Park Circle.”
Twenty years ago, the Park Circle neighborhood was a thriving community based upon the Charleston Naval Base. When the base closed, the community faced many challenges due to the loss of its largest employer. The revitalized community is now seeing new interest and investment.
