The YMCA of Columbia recently announced that it has hired Ilia Owens to be its new Community Wellness Director, overseeing the LIVESTRONG program for cancer survivors and the Diabetes Prevention Program.
In addition, Ilia will lead the YMCA’s launch of its new Weight Loss program, scheduled for October. She will handle the organization’s six annual fundraiser race events, which include a 5k walk and a sprint triathlon.
The goal of her position is to build relationships between the community and the YMCA’s programs. Owens’ previous experience includes Student Services Associate/Online Coordinator at Virginia College, New Partner Development Specialist/Account Executive at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Outreach Coordinator at the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem, Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residential Life at Salem Academy, and Residence Life Coordinator at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities.
“Ilia’s experience in academic and student affairs, program implementation, fundraising, and sales and marketing make her a great fit for this position at the Y,” Todd Heinecke, District VP of the YMCA of Columbia, said. “Ilia will continue to grow the Y’s chronic disease prevention programs as well as our fundraiser races throughout the year with her ability to streamline productivity and build relationships with other community organizations.”
