A new campaign to incentivize public transportation in Charleston and the surrounding area has recruited six local businesses.
The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) has developed CARTA Commerce, an ongoing project to reduce congestion in which participating businesses provide a discount or benefit to customers with a valid CARTA pass.
The six businesses who recently joined the program are: investment advisory firm Money With A Mission, which will offer a monthly bus pass for new clients; The Codfather, a traditional English fish and chips restaurant in North Charleston, will give any customer with a valid bus pass a free drink with any purchase; Affordabike is offering $5 off bike service to customers with a valid bus pass; the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry is offering $1 off admission to those with a valid bus pass; Blue Bicycle Books, a locally owned bookstore, is offering 10 percent off purchases to those with a valid bus pass; and Cooking Carolina, a BBQ food truck and catering business, is offering a free drink with a purchase to those with a valid bus pass.
“We support CARTA Commerce because public transportation helps the environment and is critical if we want to continue to enjoy the quality of life we’re used to in Charleston,” Brady Quirk-Garvan, a business development associate at Money With A Mission, said.
