Rick Bastin, alumnus of The Citadel, and his wife have gifted the school with $6 million for the construction of a new building to become The Citadel School of Business.
As a thank you for their generosity, the building will be named Bastin Hall.
“The construction of Bastin Hall will have a tremendous impact on The Citadel, providing both the facilities and resources we need to create programs of distinction within our School of Business as we carry out the LEAD Plan 2018, our six-year strategic plan,” Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa, USAF (Retired), Class of 1973, and president of The Citadel, said. “This extraordinary gift will help The Citadel achieve the desired end-state of the LEAD Plan, which is to strengthen The Citadel as a nationally recognized college for the education and development of principled leaders.”
The construction for the new building will start in 2017 and be located near Johnson Hagood Stadium on the south side of the campus. Construction is expected to take a year-and-a-half.
Currently, The Citadel is undertaking the most ambitious fundraising effort in the school’s history. Bastin Hall is just one part of the results from the campaign, which hopes to raise $175 million by next school year to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the school. So far, the campaign has raised $153 million of the $175 million goal.
Rick Bastin received his bachelor of science in business administration from The Citadel in 1965.
