Mark Land was recently tapped as Clemons University's first VP of University Relations, taking the reins on Aug. 22.
In his new position, Land will lead communications, direct its creative and marketing services and act as Clemson's spokesman. He brings 30 years of experience in communications to the university. Land's previous position was at Indiana University (IU), where he served as the Associate VP of Public Affairs.
“While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Indiana University, I am humbled to be selected as Clemson University’s first vice president of University Relations, and thrilled to have the opportunity to further strengthen the university’s reputation, raise its visibility among our key audiences, and share the story of the impact Clemson is making through its teaching, research and extension services,” Land said.
In addition to his five years at IU, Land spent eight years in the Cummins Inc. corporate communication department and 18 years as a newspaper journalist in the Midwest and Northeast. He currently serves on the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities' Council on Strategic Communications. He is also a member of the Arthur W. Page Society.
“Mark has a proven record of success in higher education, corporate communications and journalism, and I’m confident he will help Clemson communicate the powerful story of its academic quality, research and outreach, and its efforts to fulfill its land-grant mission by helping the citizens of South Carolina prosper,” Clemson President James P. Clements said.
