A new associate is on the job at Hall Booth Smith PC’s (HBS) Charleston, South Carolina office.
Derek Newberry has joined the team there, where he will assist clients with professional liability defense, construction litigation, commercial litigation and personal injury defense. He is also experienced in product defect litigation.
HBS’ lawyers work from 11 offices throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Tennessee.

Newberry earned his law degree from the Charleston School of Law. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from Wofford College.
Outside the courtroom, Newberry is active in the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association (SCDTAA), for which he serves as vice president of the Young Lawyers Division. He is also on the association’s Substantive Law Committee.
Currently, Newberry is also part of a leadership program offered by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Newberry has been recognized by Martindale-Hubbell with an AV Preeminent rating — a peer review rating category reserved for those who show exemplary skills in legal knowledge, communication skills and law ethics.
