The study looked at 421 metro areas, divided by size according to employment numbers.Four Palmetto State municipalities — Columbia, Charleston, Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin and Spartanburg — made the rankings. Columbia, Charleston and Greenville-Anderson-Mauldin ranked eighth, 10th and 27th, respectively, on the list of 93 mid-sized cities, while Spartanburg ranked 42nd on the list of 210 small cities.
A survey conducted by auditing firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP showed 69 percent of manufacturers surveyed in 2015's second quarter thought the national economy would improve over the next year, down from 76 percent in the first quarter of the year.
Those manufacturers also thought they would spend less for operations and capital projects in the coming months.
"Projected company revenue growth for the next 12 months slowed to 4.9 percent in the second quarter, compared to 5.1 percent in the previous quarter,” the PwC report said.
