Insurance company Enstar Group Limited has purchased Richland County-based Companion Property and Casualty Insurance Co.; the company will now operate as Sussex Insurance Co.
“The insurance industry is an important component of our local economy and today’s announcement is further evidence it is alive and well," Richland County Council Chairman Torrey Rush said. "We welcome Enstar to our corporate community and look forward to working with them as they continue to grow.”
Enstar's establishment of operations in Richland County represents a $500,000 investment. Not only will all 120 of the jobs from Companion be retained; 60 new jobs will be created over the next nine months, as well.
Since its launch in 2001, Enstar has purchased in excess of 65 companies and portfolios. The company, which is publicly traded, is based in Hamilton, Bermuda, and employs more than 1,300 workers around the world.
Sussex Insurance Co. will operate from a 36,000-square-foot facility at 221 Dawson Road. Hiring for the new positions is currently underway; resumes should be sent to USRecruiting@enstargroup.com.
