The YMCA of Columbia has announced plans to open a new downtown location at the corner of Bull St. and Hampton St. in the spring of 2016.
“Our new Downtown YMCA will enable us to better support the people and neighborhoods that need it most by addressing many of our community’s most critical issues with a state-of-the-art facility to deliver programs like LIVESTRONG at the YMCA and the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program,” said Bryan Madden, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Columbia. “Now that the selection process is complete, we look forward to the next phases of design and construction.”
As one of the first 50 YMCAs to open in the U.S., Columbia’s downtown YMCA has served as an essential support system for tens of thousands of residents since its doors first opened in 1854. Today, the organization continues to adapt with the times, offering quality childcare, camps, sports programs and much more, making a significant positive impact and strengthening the community by developing long-lasting relationships and promoting physical fitness.
For more than a century and a half, the YMCA of Columbia has been working to offer quality youth development programs and information about healthy living.
